Wool felt
I have been working with a felt mill over the last 9 months. This happened as a result of my usual felt supplier in the US not have materials for several months due to tariffs, poor planning, and war.
The good thing that came of this was discovery of a new type of felt. It is processed in a way that is unique to anything I had ever used before. It has qualities of both American and German felt. The felt fibers are soft and a bit stretchy like German felt, but dense and tough like American felt.
In order to get this material for myself I had to order a large quantity of it. Enough to probably last me 10 years. I don’t want to move it around my shop for the next ten years so I’m going to sell some.
The sheets are cut to 12” x 12” squares and are around 3/4” thick. They split quite easily and each square is enough to wrap a few dozen pairs depending on what you’re wrapping.
There are currently two densities. .14 and .16.
.14 density being slightly less dense than the .16. I have found both useful.
I will be offering even softer options in the coming months.
Either side, when split, can be used like normal timpani felt. The soft side is not as soft as the standard German felt but it is softer than American which makes this felt so unique. These can be wrapped seamless cartwheel style and I have found them to wrap more evenly than standard German felt due to the felts multidirectional stretchability(wow!).
